Zacatecas, Zac. – The Zacatecas Secretary of Health (SSZ) has taken immediate action following the detection of a suspected measles case in the municipality of Huanusco.

On April 25th, a report was received regarding a potential measles infection in a one-year, eight-month-old girl. The child had traveled with her family to an area within the state where previous cases of the illness had been reported. Notably, the patient had not completed her full vaccination schedule.

Currently, the young patient is reported to be in stable condition. Medical samples to confirm the suspected infection have been promptly sent to the National Institute of Epidemiological Reference (INDRE) in Mexico City. The results of the laboratory tests are anticipated in the coming hours.

In an effort to prevent further spread, the SSZ has already visited over 350 homes in the municipality. These visits aim to reinforce vaccination efforts and ensure that residents have completed their necessary immunization schedules.

The health agency is urging all citizens across the state to visit their nearest health unit if they have any doubts about whether children or any family member have received all their required vaccinations. This service is available regardless of insurance status, allowing individuals to receive guidance and any necessary vaccines.
