Smooth Sailing for Zacatecas Elections: No Delays, Strong Progress, Says INE

Zacatecas, Zac. – The electoral process in Zacatecas is unfolding positively and without setbacks as preparations for the concurrent elections on June 1 for various Federal and State of Zacatecas judicial posts advance smoothly, the Local Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) announced during an extraordinary session on Monday.

Presiding Councilor Matías Chiquito Díaz de León reported definitive figures for both the Nominal List of voters and the number of polling places to be installed.

Zacatecas boasts a potential electorate of 1,286,460 eligible voters. For election day, 1,846 polling stations will be set up across the state. This total includes 1,748 basic polling places, 60 contiguous stations, and 18 special locations designed to accommodate voters in transit.

«We have made significant progress in the preparations for election day, encountering no delays and are well on track for June 1st,» affirmed Chiquito Díaz de León. He also highlighted the excellent communication and coordination with the Electoral Institute of the State of Zacatecas.

Electoral Councilor Lilia Ortiz García, President of the Commission on Training and Electoral Organization, presented a report detailing the commission’s oversight of activities within the District Executive Boards. Key among these is the review of 541 mechanisms for collecting electoral packets from polling places to their respective Electoral Councils on election night.

Francisco Javier Bernal Ortiz, Electoral Councilor and President of the Federal Electoral Registry Commission, noted the secure storage of voter credentials that were not collected by their owners from the modules.

Miriam Ávila Carrasco, Electoral Councilor and President of the Commission for Monitoring Contentious Procedures, informed the council of six complaints of various types currently under investigation or in the hands of the Tribunals.

Regarding reports from the Executive Board’s Vocals, Nashielly Analidia Hernández Arango, Vocal of Electoral Organization, stated that 6,351 applications to participate as Electoral Observers have been received, with 913 individuals now accredited.

In Federal Electoral Registry activities, Gleny Martínez Hernández, Vocal of this area, highlighted that 5,137 voter credentials were placed in secure storage after not being collected by their owners by the March 31 deadline.

Furthermore, Martínez Hernández announced the designation of INE personnel for the 18 special polling places. These locations will utilize computer equipment to verify voters against the Nominal List and determine the offices for which they are eligible to vote based on their registered address. Each special polling place will be equipped with 1,000 ballots.

Samuel Esparza Castillo, Vocal of Electoral Training and Civic Education of the Local Board, reported substantial progress in the training of citizens selected to serve as poll workers.

Currently, 95.36 percent of designated poll workers have been notified and received their appointments, and 91.86 percent of these individuals have already been trained.

Esparza Castillo noted the commencement of electoral day simulations and practice sessions, with particular emphasis on familiarity with the electoral ballots.

Finally, the Local Council approved the designation of alternate District Councilors for the INE District Councils within the state for the extraordinary electoral process 2024-2025, concerning the election of various positions within the Federal and State of Zacatecas judicial branches.
