In a coordinated effort to combat crime, security forces from all three levels of government dealt a significant blow to a criminal organization with the arrest of a male individual considered a high-priority target and a major source of violence in the state.
Following investigative leads, intelligence work, and a tactical operation carried out by the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Forces (FRIZ), in collaboration with the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the Investigative Police of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGJEZ), the suspect was apprehended in the central zone of the municipality of Zacatecas.
The detainee was identified as Gustavo N., 35 years old, originally from the state of Quintana Roo. At the time of his arrest, he was carrying a loaded handgun, 28 doses of a granulated and crystalline substance resembling crystal methamphetamine, four doses of a dry green herb similar to marijuana, and two communication devices.
In addition to the seized items, the individual has a criminal record for homicide and an outstanding arrest warrant for aggravated homicide.
Authorities possess various pieces of evidence directly linking this person to violent incidents in Zacatecas, including an attack on two individuals at the Mercado de Abastos (Central Market), another in the downtown area of the capital – in both of these cases, people were injured – and a homicide related to a ride-share driver.
According to investigations, the detainee was recruited by a criminal group to work as a hitman, positioning him as an active generator of violence and a priority target for security authorities.
The detainee, the weapon, the drugs, and other evidence were placed at the disposal of the competent authority, which will integrate the investigation file to determine responsibilities and continue the legal process.
With these actions, the security forces reaffirmed their commitment to peace, legality, and the frontal combat against those who generate violence, in order to advance the pacification of the state.
