In an interview with the National Association of Independent Entrepreneurs (ANEI) with Javier Torres in Monterrey, the challenges related to security and economic development in the region are discussed. The Mayor of Fresnillo recalled that in the past, it was considered the most dangerous city in Mexico, but it has experienced an improvement in the perception of security thanks to coordinated efforts between the state and federal governments.
Torres Rodriguez emphasized the importance of security as a key factor for attracting investments and promoting economic development, given that Fresnillo makes a significant contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Zacatecas.
The mayor reported that the police force has been increased and investments have been made in public security, with the aim of regaining the trust of citizens.
He also highlighted the importance of mining in the local economy, mentioning that the Fresnillo mine is one of the most significant in Latin America, generating thousands of both direct and indirect jobs.
The mayor advocated for the return of the mining fund to municipalities in order to improve infrastructure and services, and emphasized the need to connect young people with job opportunities in the mining sector.
Additionally, he mentioned Fresnillo’s strategy to position itself in the current geopolitical context, leveraging its location and resources to attract investments and foster local development.
Finally, the mayor expressed his desire for Fresnillo to be perceived as an attractive place to live and work, calling for collaboration between different levels of government and the community.
