During her first visit to Zacatecas as President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, accompanied by Governor David Monreal Ávila, confirmed the establishment of the Seed Producer for Well-Being (Prosebien) in Calera. Additionally, she announced the delivery of 7,082 tons of high-quality seed for 43,000 bean producers in Zacatecas, which will be 13 times more than the amount of seed delivered last year and 11 times more than the number of beneficiary producers.
This announcement was met with great enthusiasm by the farmers who accompanied the President and the state governor this afternoon at the facilities that will become Prosebien at the beginning of 2025, where, in collaboration with the rural community, improved seeds will be produced for the entire country.
«We will continue to work very closely with Governor David Monreal,» said Sheinbaum Pardo while informing the agricultural sector that, as part of the second phase of the transformation, guaranteed prices have also been established at 30 percent higher, strengthening Liconsa, launching the Well-Being Stores, and implementing the Harvesting Sovereignty program for technical support and assistance with marketing, financing, and agricultural insurance.
She also stated that, with Production for Well-Being, the delivery of free fertilizer will continue, along with accessible loans with low-interest rates, coverage insurance, technical support, and machinery, as well as guaranteed prices that will be paid within a maximum of one month, so that more can be produced in the fields for the well-being of all, particularly for those who have the least.
In addition, she emphasized that the support will be individual and not through organizations because «the people’s money goes to the people,» said Claudia Sheinbaum.
For his part, Governor David Monreal Ávila assured the President that she will always find committed allies in Zacatecas who share her vision of an equal, self-sufficient, strong Mexico with social justice.
«Because we know that food self-sufficiency is not just a goal, but the guarantee of a free and sovereign country. Thank you, thank you for being here, listening to the voices of the Zacatecan countryside.»
Alongside honoring the legacy of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Monreal Ávila expressed gratitude for the President’s support for this state, stating that the launch of the new Seed Producer for Well-Being (Prosebien) based in Zacatecas is great news that fills everyone with hope.
«This project represents a historic opportunity for the Mexican countryside, as it will boost bean production with certified seeds of the highest genetic quality, allowing us to take a firm step towards self-sufficiency.»
He considered that, through this effort, Zacatecas will become the center of a national movement to reduce dependence on imported beans. «Today we begin a new phase so that the beans consumed in Mexico are planted and harvested within our national territory.»
Similarly, the Governor praised the President for deciding to increase the guaranteed price of beans from 21 to 27 pesos per kilo, stating that Zacatecas is proud to contribute to the great transformation «and we are ready to continue making our utmost effort to achieve a dignified, just, and sustainable countryside.»
«Madam President, as a man of the field, as a son of a farmer father, and a son of a farmer mother, I know that, as it is well said: ‘we should not be afraid of being stepped on, because when stepped on, the grass becomes a path.'»
We know that this transformation will still face reactions and resistance, but Zacatecas, its government, and its people reaffirm today and forever their commitment to continue building the path of the Fourth Transformation of our country.
«Dear President, we from the countryside, like all the people of Mexico, will accompany you on the journey of this new stage of our country; President of the Republic, we care for you very much in Zacatecas, and you will always be welcome here,» assured the governor.
During the meeting with the agricultural sector, the President also informed the people of Zacatecas that she will meet with the state governor and his team to plan greater support for water production, roads, and other projects. «We will continue to work very closely with the Governor,» she emphasized.
On the working tour that the President began today, Saturday, in Zacatecas, which will conclude tomorrow, Sunday, she was accompanied by members of her cabinet, including Julio Berdegué Sacristán, head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader); the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, Edna Vega Rangel; and the Undersecretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Leonel Cota Montaño.
