Governor David Monreal Ávila emphasized that in Zacatecas, there will be no backing down in the pursuit of peace consolidation, as the State Security Strategy has yielded positive results, leading to the state no longer being the most unsafe entity in the country over the past three years.
While leading the Ceremony of Honors to the Flag at the facilities of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE), accompanied by its head, Cristian Paul Camacho Osnaya, and by Arturo Medina Mayoral, Secretary of Public Security, he recognized the security agents who lost their lives in the line of duty this weekend.
After expressing his condolences and solidarity, Governor David Monreal reaffirmed his full support, both as a government and personally, to the families, their colleagues and friends, the members of the Secretary of Public Security, and their leader, Arturo Medina Mayoral, for their sacrifice and for giving their lives for others.
He acknowledged the fallen officers in the line of duty: Jorge Cruz González, Alejandro Aldana Galicia, and Officer Miguel Ángel Barrera Hernández, recognizing their work, dedication, and commitment, assuring that they will remain unforgettable in our hearts and in those of our people.
He stated that they «will forever serve as a lesson and a reminder that our mission is greater and that achieving peace also requires sacrifice»; «to our people, I ask you not to give up and that we must not take a step back; the effort and dedication of each of them will not be in vain.»
Governor David Monreal stressed that these acts of violence are nothing more than a desperate response to the actions that the government and authorities have undertaken towards a joint strategy for pacification; «the transformation of Zacatecas is underway, and those who oppose it will not be able to stop the yearning for peace in our community.»
In offering all his support to the families of these heroes, Governor David Monreal emphasized that «we will continue to work tirelessly and firmly until we achieve peace for everyone in Zacatecas.»
He recalled that, after a decade, the state has finally managed to contain and reduce crime rates, noting that, for example, from 2005 to 2010, there was an increase of more than 100 percent in homicides, extortion, and kidnapping; from 2010 to 2016, it grew by more than 380 percent; and from 2016 to 2021, there was an unprecedented increase.
This 2024, considered the Year of Peace in Zacatecas, he continued, «has demanded a lot from all of us, has presented us with a true challenge, but it has also provided us with lessons, experience, and opportunities to strengthen our commitment to achieving pacification. Building peace is the path and remains the central theme not only for our state but for our country.»
For this reason, Governor David Monreal stated that «peace is the cause that unites us and for which we work day and night. We know that peace is not built in a single day and that the transformation we have proposed requires perseverance, permanence, courage, and bravery.»
He highlighted the work of the security forces in maintaining this desire for peace, «so that we can restore the state’s normalcy, fraternity, and coexistence, allowing people to walk peacefully through the beautiful streets of Zacatecas.» Therefore, he will continue to provide better conditions for all corporations dedicated to security and the administration of justice.
He announced that in January 2025, the Peace and Well-Being Agenda will be unveiled, which will be accompanied by actions aimed at continuing the security strategy so that peace prevails consistently and permanently in the Zacatecan territory.
This event was also attended by Juan Manríquez Moreno, state coordinator of the National Guard; Adilene Rosales Romero, delegate of Development Programs; Francisco Javier Esquivel Cruz, delegate of the Attorney General’s Office; Carlos Moreno Sánchez, head of the National Intelligence Center; representatives of the Eleventh Military Zone; agents of the FGJE Investigation Police; Osvaldo Cerrillo Garza, secretary of the State Peacebuilding Table; as well as members of the Cabinet, among others.
