Zacatecas, Zac. – In a landmark move to enhance the working conditions and professional image of state and municipal police officers, Governor David Monreal Ávila inaugurated a pioneering Uniform Exchange Center and a state-of-the-art gymnasium at the State Public Security Executive Secretariat in Zacatecas.

With a total investment of $2,231,953 pesos, this initiative positions Zacatecas as a national leader, establishing the first Uniform Exchange Center for police officers in the country—a model previously exclusive to the Mexican Army.

The Uniform Exchange Center, funded with $1,682,000 pesos from the Public Security Contributions Fund (FASP), is designed to streamline the replacement of worn or damaged uniforms for state and municipal law enforcement personnel. The 129-square-meter facility includes uniform and general storage, a maintenance area, and administrative offices, housing essential items like pants, shirts, caps, and boots.

Officers, with command approval, can now efficiently replace their uniforms, ensuring they receive two sets annually, as mandated by Governor Monreal. A separate, high-security storage area has been established for sensitive equipment, including ballistic vests and helmets, featuring enhanced security measures to protect these valuable assets.

Complementing the exchange center, a new gymnasium was opened with a $549,953 peso investment. This facility, part of a broader effort to promote officer health and fitness, will be accessible to all police personnel, with plans for future expansion to include showers, steam rooms, saunas, and relaxation areas.

Comprehensive Police Dignification Model

Governor Monreal emphasized that these advancements are part of a comprehensive strategy to build one of the nation’s top police forces. «Dignification involves infrastructure, offices, uniforms, tools, vehicles, equipment, and salaries,» he stated, noting the significant annual budget increases for the Security Secretariat.

Future plans include a tartan track and an advanced training center. Strict uniform control measures will also be implemented to prevent misuse.

The Governor highlighted the critical role of collaboration with the Mexican Army and the National Guard in the state’s pacification strategy, which has garnered national attention.

«Today, the country is seeing a decrease in crime rates, and Zacatecas is at the forefront,» he remarked.

The state will also invest in new equipment and vehicle fleet renewals, and collaborate with municipalities to enhance video surveillance through C4 and C5 intelligence centers.
