Guadalupe Cemeteries Cleaned Up: 21 Tons of Trash Removed After Day of the Dead

Guadalupe, Zacatecas, successfully concluded its post-Día de Muertos cleanup operation. City Services collected 21 tons of trash, ensuring the 11 cemeteries remain tidy. The effort provided a safe and clean space for all families to remember their loved ones.

Post-Holiday Cleanup Yields Record Trash Collection

City Secretary José Antonio Flores Berúmen confirmed the 21 tons of waste were sent to the sanitary landfill. The initiative kept the resting grounds clean before, during, and after the November 1st and 2nd celebrations.

Over the three-day weekend, the landfill received a total of 246 tons of trash. The operation in Guadalupe’s cemeteries aimed to give peace of mind to the families honoring their ancestors and continuing Zacatecas traditions.

Zero Incidents Reported by Civil Protection

Guadalupe Civil Protection Coordinator Jonathan Díaz Oliva reported zero incidents («saldo blanco») during the event. This safety success was achieved through a prevention operation specifically designed for the massive Day of the Dead gathering.

Two Civil Protection agents were deployed to each of the 11 cemeteries. Their key role was to assist elderly visitors, preventing falls and ensuring safe passage within the cemeteries.

Sustaining Tradition and Safety for the Diaspora

These results underline the commitment of Guadalupe authorities to maintain dignity in the cemeteries and uphold the Zacatecan tradition. The success of the operation is an assurance of a safe connection to the homeland for all, including the migrant community.
